Deadpool Review: Tacos, Chimichangas, and Pure Entertainment!

(The following review does not contain any major spoilers. However, there are minor details that some may wish to avoid before watching the film.)

Marvel’s Deadpool is a huge R-rated hit. It is an action-packed, romantic comedy that features a terrific performance by Ryan Reynolds, Canadian actor and producer. It runs for 108 minutes and is Rated R for strong violence and language, sexual content and graphic nudity.

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) was a former member of the special forces. He then proceeded to work as a mercenary who takes bad guys down for a price. He eventually meets a local call girl, Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin) and his life was changed forever. He enjoyed the romance and love until Wilson discovers that he had cancer. But it was too late for him to do anything because it had spread to his liver, lungs, prostate, and brain (coincidentally, they are all vital parts of the human body). Afterwards, he was deceived into undergoing experimental procedures because he was told it will cure his cancer. The deceitful experiments, overseen by Ajax (Ed Skrein) and Angel Dust (Gina Carano), had turned Wilson into Deadpool. He was hideously mutilated but on the bright side, he had accelerated healing powers. So that’s a plus, right? Frightened of what Vanessa might think of his disfigured appearance, Deadpool decides to pursue Ajax to restore his former good looks and maybe satisfy his vengeful urges to the person responsible for turning him into an ugly, cynical mercenary.

The cast for this movie is spot on. I firmly believe that Ryan Reynolds is the perfect person to play Deadpool. Ed Skrein has done his best to portray as the villain named Ajax in this film. However, he does not seem that threatening or much of a bad guy at all. He seems more of a coward to hide behind his armed men even though he has mutant abilities himself.  The costume design is superb. It looked like he came out of the comics. And the background music that was chosen proved to be very fitting for each scenario. The editing and special effects were a blast to see.

Overall, it is a very enjoyable film and I highly recommend it to anyone. You could see it with your friends, your partner, or even your grandma(if she enjoys strong violence and mature content). My favourite part is how he constantly interacts with the audience. The only thing that disappointed me was the fact that he didn’t have the voices in his head like in the comics but that doesn’t really matter because I was too distracted by the awesomeness of this film (and the chimichangas). So, if you’re a Deadpool fan and anxious if this film is going to be a disappointment then worry no more! Fortunately, it is everything fans have hoped for. It’s a five out of five stars! Even thinking about it right now makes me want to watch it all over again.
